Update!

Hey guys been a busy time recently for us. At the end of November we filmed a workshop in Glasgow for Adaptation Scotland about the effects of climate change on Glasgow and the Clyde Valley region. Bellow is a short video showing how the day went and some interviews with some of the people and companies attending.

Throughout december we moved office again! lol but just to the room next door, which is much bigger so once again we were painting and carpeting so heres some pictures of the process. I think we’ve really done well here, its so nice to walk into work in the morning, and even better to have clients round for a nice (Nespresso) coffee and a chat about their projects. We can also show them the progress on our massive 46″ TV!!!

Until next time

oh almost forgot to say we have something big up our collective sleeves which we will let you in on soon!

Long time no blog!

So its been a very long time since we updated this blog. If some of you dont know we also operate as AM Wedding Films and have been crazy busy with that recently, check out some of the trailers on our site / vimeo even if your not getting married, we like to take a more cinematic approach to wedding films so they’re a good example of what we can do.

I’ll try and recap some of the stuff we have been up to as Artist Media, if i miss anything I’m sorry!

Way back in August we went along to The LaFontaines headline gig at Stereo, we took our camera along to grab a few snaps. What a crazy gig the crowd were going mental, crowd-surfing aplenty followed by a spontaneous stage invasion to close out the set in style! There should hopefully be something more exciting from Artist Media and The Fonts released sometime soon, in the mean time heres a slideshow from the gig.

We also filmed a behind the scenes video for the Sexiest UK Girls 2012 calendar, which was arranged by Chameleon Fotos, photographer  Lawrence Scott (LSPIX). The studio was called Studio Q Photography based in Falkirk. Here’s the video from the day:

Then followed the Scottish New Music Awards, we were asked to provide a live feed to the Green Room, and also film the night so we will be sending Bruce the live clips very soon and he will be uploading them to the web for everyone to check out!

SNMA

More recently we filmed the premier of the new Footloose movie staring relatively unknown Kenny Wormald, Julianne Hough and Dennis Quaid. We were filming vox pop’s and getting groups of excited audience members to shout ‘Cut Loose’ the footage was being used for a national advert for the film on TV with loads of city’s doing the same thing. Unfortunately we dont know what channel or time that it was shown :(

Finally we filmed a short fashion film for In The Company Of Wolves who are putting on a fashion show on the 26th of October at Sub Club in Glasgow. The film will be shown on the night, the theme for the event is 70′s horror so the Film involved a demented model running around the St Judes Hotel on Bath Street. I’m not going to tell you any more, you’ll have to come along on the night (which we are filming as well) or wait for it to be put on online.

Wow I think thats us up to date now! We will try and be more regular with the updates so their not all as massive as this lol

New equipment and rentals

Just recently we went to visit our friend Alastair from Glidetrack to purchase a new Hybrid HD Slider which is amazing and adds so much to your videos we would really recommend it. While we were there having a coffee he said he was trying to clear some space in his garage and offered us a 14ft crane at a great rate, we couldn’t say no, so we backed up the van into his drive and loaded up the new gear then went in and finished off the our coffee while Alistair showed us Apple TV which I must say is awesome, now that you can watch Vimeo on it and seamlessly stream videos from your iPad or iPhone we were both sold lol and will be visiting an Apple store soon!

Artist Media Ltd

Having now added a jib and another lighting kit to our repertoire of equipment we though it would be a good idea to offer rentals as we have a lot of friends in the industry who could benefit from all this gear so we have begun putting together a price list. If you are interested in hiring any of our gear get in contact with us and we will do you a deal.

New Office

So, we have been a wee bit quiet recently. Why? Because we’ve been moving office, we are now based in The Pentagon Centre right in the heart of Glasgow City Centre. Since moving in we have been painting walls, laying carpets, lugging equipment, building sofas/ desks/ shelfs and generally making it look nice :) below is a series of images from the moving process. We also have to say a massive thanks to Simon Church who helped us paint and carpet!

Glasgow West End Festival

West End Festival Video

For almost the whole month of June Glasgow’s West End is buzzing with the sound of live music, family events, open days and art exhibitions all as part of the West End Festival. Michael Dale started the festival in 1996 and its grown from strength to strength each year since then, providing a great platform for some of the cities many talented and creative individuals. The focal point of the festival is ‘Festival Sunday’ where thousands of people descend on Kelvingrove Park to take in all the craft stalls, fun fair, food and drink, multiple live music stages and of course the famous Mardi Gras Parade which involves over 800 people and 10 Samba bands! This is a great event for the whole family, with activities and face painting for the younger ones and a licensed bar for the older :) and some culture for the even older :P

We were asked along to film a short promotional video for the event, we were given complete creative freedom with the video our only task was to make it look like a successful event which it was so that was very easy. We had great fun on the day and everyone was really friendly and just generally having a good time so it didn’t feel like work! Check out the Festival Sunday video below to get a glimpse of whats involved, and definitely try and get along next year when its bound to be bigger and better.

Music from Fatherson – ‘Where The Water Meets The Land’ and Otherpeople – ‘Halloween’

After we had shown the clients what we had created they asked us to come along to film the Gibson Street Gala the following Sunday. This is another great event in the West End Festival calendar. This was actually our first year attending this event and we absolutely fell in love with it. It’s such a great family event!!!

First Impressions of FCPX

fcpxSo yesterday (21st June 2011) saw the release of the new Final Cut Pro called Final Cut Pro X. Initially Artist Media were extremely excited about the upgrade with all the rumored new features up its sleeves but having installed it and opened it up the initial excitement has faded.

As soon as you open the FCPX you are greeted with an import from iMovie option, not the most encouraging thing to see in what is supposed to be a professional NLE programe. In general the whole redesign means that anyone familiar with iMovie will be able to make the transition much easier than people accustomed to the layout and way FCP7 handled media. The new version does have some handy new features that will improve productivity in edits like audio syncing, background rendering, and colour matching etc. But I think the steep learning curve that will be involved in making the change will mean that we will most likely still be using FCP7 for paid work and using personal projects to learn the new system. Thats one very good thing about the new version, it doesn’t replace FCP7 on your machine so you can still use both just not at the same time. I love playing with new software and finding out shortcuts and tricks myself so will have some fun with FCPX over the next few weeks but I get the feeling I will be watching a lot of tutorials as well.

Easy Tease Burlesque

On sunday the 29th May we were asked along to film a charity event at Firpark Social Club the event was in aid of Wishaw General Hospital Women’s Unit. The event consisted of lots of burlesque performances, Singers and pole dancing. Event organiser Ash McTease runs classes throughout lanarkshire you can check her website out here: http://www.easyteaseburlesque.co.uk/

She also invited along the girls from Pole Princess and the ‘Young at Heat Dance Troupe’ a fabulous group of ‘older’ women showing that your never too old to dance!

We produced a short trailer for the event which you can see above, we are pleased to say that everyone who’s seen it so fan has loved it. To quote Ash McT’s e-mail after the first time she saw the video she said “Video looks AMAZING!!!! Thanks sooo soo much I totally LOVE IT!!!” It always make us happy when a client loves there video :)

Hopefully we will have many more chances to work with everyone involved as we had a great night!

Video Transfer

Like most people you’ve probably got a box full of home videos on VHS hiding away in the attic or basement, these memories are slowly deteriorating due to the medium that they are stored on. If your anything like us you will love seeing these videos but maybe haven’t for years because you threw out your VHS player. Maybe your children in these videos now have children of there own and you want to embarrass them with videos from there past, maybe your child is getting married and you want to play something at their big day, maybe you have recently lost someone and don’t want to lose the memories as well. Even if you don’t have an excuse just now, future generations will love you for documenting there family’s history.

We’re now offering this service so get in contact if you want to discuss prices and what we can do with your footage. We know how much these memories mean to people so we put our all into keeping them personal to each family.

New Site

So a year has passed since starting up Artist Media Ltd and we have had a great time producing videos for corporate clients, teaming up with Lofi Studios to produce live session videos and generally meeting lots of cool people. We’ve been kept fairly busy and had fun investing in new and exciting camera gear and a van :-)

A lot of the creative work we’ve done this past year is deep in post production just now so unfortunately most of it hasn’t been seen yet but things will slowly be coming out this year and we cant wait for you guys to see it!

Recently I (gregg) have been redesigning this website with a new layout and new host, keeping it simple and to the point. I’m going to try and update this blog more regularly with all things Artist Media, camera news, local music news and generally anything I find interesting, so check back regularly and spread the word.

Here’s to another good year, lets make this one even more busy!
